Stage right and stage left refer to the sides of the stage as viewed by the performer when facing the audience.
Stage right is the right side of the stage as viewed by the performer (and left side as viewed by the audience). It is traditionally used to refer to the actor’s right, or the side of the stage that is closest to the actor’s right hand.
Stage left is the left side of the stage as viewed by the performer (and right side as viewed by the audience). It is traditionally used to refer to the actor’s left, or the side of the stage that is closest to the actor’s left hand.
These terms are important to the actors, stage managers, and other theater professionals as they help in developing the blocking and staging of a play. The use of stage right and left can also be helpful in communicating directions and cues during rehearsals and performances.
